VINCENT – In their first area game of the 2018 volleyball season, the Vincent Yellow Jackets were looking to get off to a momentous start in front of their home crowd on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when they played host to the Tarrant Wildcats.

And what a momentum boost it was for the Yellow Jackets.

With all but the final set being decided by 14 points or more, Vincent not only got off to a 1-0 start in area play, but dominated the Wildcats to pick up their first win of the season with a sweep.

After dropping matches to Montevallo and Fayetteville last week, it was a positive for the Yellow Jackets to see that first win accomplished.

In the first set, Vincent looked nothing like a team that had lost two matches the week before and came out to put one of the best volleyball performances together that you can have.

Anytime a team holds their opponent to less than 10 points in a set, it’s something that can really set the tone for how a match will unfold and that’s exactly what the Jackets did to start the match.

Vincent didn’t just hold Tarrant to less than 10 points, but cut that in half, holding the Wildcats to just five points in the opening set with a 25-5 victory to kick the match off.

That propelled a dominant effort from the Yellow Jackets, who held Tarrant to 10 points or less for the second set in a row when they picked up a 25-10 win in set two, giving them a 2-0 advantage overall.

While, the effort was strong throughout, Vincent showed some signs of tiredness in the third set, but wasn’t about to let Tarrant win the set and the momentum slip away.

It ended up being the most tightly contested set of the match, but Vincent pulled away late for a 25-21 win to claim the sweeping victory.

Now, moving forward, the Yellow Jackets will not only carry with them the momentum of this win into their next match, but they’ll also have the confidence of play ahead in area play against teams like Altamont and Sumiton Christian.
