VINCENT – Coming off a week where the Vincent Yellow Jackets’ volleyball team went 0-2, the Vincent Yellow Jackets were looking for a confidence booster on their home court on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when they played host to the Alabama School for the Deaf in a non-area matchup.

Vincent was coming off of three consecutive losses with their last win coming on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in a sweep of area opponent Tarrant, and in their match against ASD, the Jackets were able to get back to the team that pulled off that win with a 3-0 sweep to pick up the victory.

It didn’t come without some competition from the opponent, but the Yellow Jackets were consistent throughout, not running away with each set, but winning each by at least six points.

The reason for that consistent effort was because of strong play late in sets to pull away for each win.

While the final two sets ended with the same exact outcome, the first set was slightly more competitive with both teams battling hard to try and avoid a 1-0 deficit early in the match.

In the end, however, the Yellow Jackets were just too much on both defense and offense and eventually pulled away for a six-point 25-19 victory to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Vincent took advantage of that confidence and momentum in the second set, going on to pull away late again for an eight-point 25-17 win to take a 2-0 lead overall.

With Alabama School for the Deaf now down 2-0, it was forced to pull off three consecutive wins to win the match, but with the Yellow Jackets’ holding all of the momentum, that was just too much to overcome.

Vincent went on to close the match out in the third set with another 25-17 victory to claim the win and sweep.

With the Yellow Jackets battling with Tarrant and Sumiton Christian for the second spot in the area behind a good Altamont team, it was a big confidence boost for the team moving forward.
