ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council soon will follow a different meeting schedule beginning in October, after council members recently voted to change their regular meeting nights.

Since 2014, the council has been meeting on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. at Alabaster City Hall.

The schedule originally was put in place to accommodate the work schedule of Ward 5 Councilman Russell Bedsole, who is a captain at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Bedsole’s work schedule has changed since then, and no longer conflicts with the council’s new meeting dates.

Beginning in October, the council will start meeting on the first and third Mondays of each month, also at 7 p.m. each night at Alabaster City Hall.

The council also holds pre-meeting work sessions beginning at 6 p.m. on meeting nights, and typically holds a standalone work session on weeks between its regular meetings. All council meetings and work sessions are open to the public.

After its Sept. 24 meeting, the council will meet on the following nights this year: Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Nov. 5, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17.
