ALABASTER – Veterans Park off Alabama 119 in Alabaster will be filled with plenty of laughter and fun activities in mid-October, as the city is preparing to host its 12th-annual Fall Fling for special-needs students.

Alabaster’s Parks and Recreation Department will host the event on Friday, Oct. 19 from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the park.

The event is for elementary school students in the Alabaster and Shelby County school systems with mental and/or physical disabilities, and will give students a chance to participate in a variety of activities outside of a school setting while having fun and making new friends.

During the event, participants will have the opportunity to fish, complete crafts, play carnival games, participate in a drum circle, play on inflatables and have their faces painted. Kona Ice will provide frozen treats free to the students throughout the event.

“We are excited to host this event,” said Alabaster Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Alicia Walters. “This is a privilege for us to host this event each year, and we love working with the children.”
