Kingwood falls at home to Chambers Academy

ALABASTER – The Kingwood Christian School Lions couldn’t get the offense going on Sept. 28, as they fell 35-7 to the visiting undefeated Chambers Academy Rebels in a non-region game at Ron Cox Field.
Running back Peyton Long scored the Lions’ lone touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter followed by a Mason Collins PAT, as Kingwood fell to 5-2, 1-1, on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Chambers Academy (7-0, 2-0) lit up the scoreboard by scoring a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter, a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter and another touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Long led the Lions’ rushing attack, racking up 18 yards and a touchdown on six carries, followed by Tyler West, who ended the night with 16 yards on 13 carries.
Quarterback Garrett Picklesimer completed 12 of 21 passing attempts for 123 yards, and his favorite targets were Long, who caught two catches for 31 yards, and Parker Foushee, who reeled in three passes for 30 yards.
Jayton Denard led the Kingwood defense with six tackles and four assists, followed by Garrett Helmers with five tackles and four assists. Joe Randall ended the night with two tackles, two assists and a fumble recovery, and Long recorded two tackles, three assists and an interception on the night.
Kingwood will return home on Oct. 5 to face region foe Glenwood, while Chambers will face region opponent Pickens Academy.
