PELHAM – Pelham Church of God is hosting its inaugural Community Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the church located at 2100 Shelby County 52 East.

The event, which is free to the public, will include free hotdogs, inflatables, a costume contest, hay rides, games, face painting, candy and more.

Event coordinator Connie Champion said she and her husband Brian became co-pastors of the children’s ministry in February and began brainstorming ways to reach out into the community.

“We wanted to do something to let the community know that we’re here,” Champion said. “We want to grow in the community and show people that we care.”

Champion said the event is also an opportunity for the community to socialize and get to know one another.

The event is open to school-aged children and teens. Champion said the plan is to make the trunk or treat an annual community event.

“We have great location to host something like this with us being located right off Interstate 65 behind the Publix shopping center,” she said.
