Spain Park collecting items for soldiers serving abroad

HOOVER – In honor of Veterans Day, Spain Park High School will be partnering with Support Our Soldiers for a school-wide service project, Soldiers Care Package Drive.

Through the end of October, students, faculty and community members are encouraged to drop off items from the supply list below.

If you so desire, consider including a small note of appreciation/encouragement as well.

Donation bins can be found in front of the library, cafeteria, bus drop-off and inside the athletic entrance.

These items and letters will be sorted and bundled in individual boxes to be sent to soldiers serving abroad as care packages.

Items most in need include:

  • Toiletries: baby wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, Chapstick, tampons/pads, loofah sponges, hand sanitizers (small containers), body wash, tooth brushes, hand warmers, sunscreen (no aerosols) and body lotion (in squeeze tubes).
  • Clothing: White athletic socks, black or brown work socks, men’s boxer briefs (medium and large sizes), men’s T-shirts (medium and large sizes).
  • Food: peanut butter, tuna (in pouches or pop-top cans), powdered drink mixes (individual ones), canned fruit (with pop top), Vienna sausage, ravioli (with pop tops), nuts, trail mix, protein bars, Pringles/pretzels, gummy fruit snacks, cough drops, cookies (no large packages) and peanut butter crackers.

Also requested are men’s magazines, including Men’s Health, Sports Illustrated, ESPN magazine, Game & Fish, etc.
