Robert Lee “Bobby” Dawson, Jr., age 73 and a longtime resident of Calera, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 3.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1945 in Birmingham; the son of the late Robert Lee Dawson, Sr. and the late Mildred Findley Dawson.

He retired from LaFarge Cement Plant after working there for 30 years. Bobby was a member of the Enon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for a number of years. He loved hunting, fishing, woodcarving, auto mechanics, and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice Bowden Dawson of Calera; daughter, Amy (Randal) Moss of Chatom; son, Robert Dawson of Birmingham; granddaughters, Courtney Moss, Hailey Moss, and Polly Dawson; sister, Mary (Bill) Lawson of Alabaster; sister, Liz (Brad) Hodges of Marietta, Georgia; sister, Deborah (Jesse) Pilgreen of Alabaster; brother, Stanley (Joi) Dawson of Montevallo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends.

He is preceded in death by his son, John Michael Dawson; father, Robert Lee Dawson, Sr.; mother, Mildred Findley Dawson; brother, Vann Dawson; sister, Peggy Fant; and sister, Dianne Horton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. from the Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Traywick and Rev. Travis Burnette officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Enon Baptist Cemetery in Montevallo.

The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice for the wonderful care they provided him during his final weeks.
