Incumbent state Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, will serve another term in Alabama Senate District 14 after winning re-election in the Nov. 6 general election.
In Shelby County, with all but the provisional ballots counted, Ward received 21,326 votes, or 68 percent. His Democrat challenger, Jerry McDonald, received 9,887 votes, or 32 percent.
“I’m very thankful to the people of Shelby, Chilton and Bibb County for giving me a chance to serve them again,” Ward said. “We’re excited. I’m very thankful the people have allowed me to represent them again in the Alabama Senate.”
Ward will continue his work in District 14, which includes Montevallo and Helena, along with portions of Hoover, Alabaster, Pelham and Calera.
He was first elected to the Alabama Senate in 2010, and then re-elected in 2012. He has served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the last eight years.
McDonald could not be reached for comment.
