The store owner, Harry Marion Autry, 38, of Hoover was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

SCDETF narcotics investigators executed a search and seizure warrant at 4673 U.S. 280 East Suite 9, a storefront operating under the name, The CBD Store.

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found in marijuana plants that has been touted to offer medicinal benefits, but the substance is legal in Alabama only in a handful of cases of debilitating illnesses.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences confirmed that products from the store submitted for testing by SCDETF investigators contained controlled substances.

As investigators seized the inventory within the store, multiple field tests were conducted on site, all of which returned positive test results for the presence of controlled substances.

Autry remained in the Shelby County Jail on a $35,000 bond as of the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 16.
