CALERA – Calera’s defense was able to hold Montevallo to less than 10 points in all four quarters on Tuesday, Dec. 4, to pick up a 45-17 victory on its home floor.

The Eagles (4-4) got off to a strong start on both ends of the floor thanks in large part to seven points from Treasure Davis. She was joined by three other scorers in the period to total 12 points out of the gates.

And while Montevallo (2-3, 1-0) got five points from Tekay Hill in the opening period, she was the Bulldogs’ only scorer in the quarter, which put them down 12-5 heading into the second.

Calera took a step backward in the second quarter offensively posting just nine points in the period led again by Davis with four points.

The story for Montevallo became missed opportunities at the free throw line as the Bulldogs went just 1-4 from the line in the frame, and were 2-7 for the game to that point.

That became the difference in a single-digit deficit and a double-digit deficit at the half as the Eagles were able to take a 21-8 lead into the break.

Calera came out of the half firing on the offensive end of the floor after a quiet second quarter and posted their best period of the game in the third thanks to 15 points.

The Eagles got help from four different scorers in the quarter led by six points from A.B. Davis.

Montevallo was yet again limited to single digits scoring just six points in the quarter all from Zsaria Dukes.

Now leading 36-14, Calera was in a great position with Montevallo struggling to score points, making a comeback improbable.

The Eagles were able to score nine more points in the final quarter, hitting three of their five free throws and knocking down three free jump shots as well.

Defensively, they matched their second quarter effort by limiting the Bulldogs to just three points in the final period, which led to the final score of 45-17.

Treasure Davis led the Eagles with 16 points in the game, while A.B. Davis added 13 points.

Hill led the way for Montevallo with 10 points.
