ALABASTER – A Thompson High School softball team standout will be continuing her career at the next level, after she signed a scholarship offer with an in-state university during a Dec. 7 ceremony in the THS cafeteria.
Kindall Deramus signed with Alabama State University during the ceremony while surrounded by friends, family members, teammates and coaches.
“As a coach, other than winning the state championship, this is probably the most rewarding day we could have. It’s just a pleasure that I get to be here with Kindall and celebrate with her,” said THS head softball coach Kevin Todd. “She’s been through a lot of trying times and frustration, but like I told Kindall, God has a plan for her. He’s putting her where I think she belongs. I truly believe that. God has placed her at ASU for a reason.”
During her time with the Warriors, Deramus has been named to the All-State and All-County teams, has been the lead-off hitter for the past two seasons and has hit over .500 and stolen 40 or more bases every year she’s been on the team.
“The thing that makes Kindall more special than the rest is who she is off the field. She’s a great ball player, but off the field she’s a joy,” Todd said. “She knows what a student-athlete is all about. People don’t understand what it takes to do what she did. She was a right-handed hitter and she switched over to a left-handed hitter, and that isn’t easy. She’s done a wonderful job.
I want to say how proud we are of you, how blessed I am to have gotten to know you and be around you.”
Deramus credited her faith with helping to lead her to the next level.
“I just want to thank everyone for coming out, it really means a lot,” she said. “I feel like God does have a plan for me. I just want to thank all my coaches and all of my teammates.”
