COLUMBIANA – Shoppers looking for Chelsea General Store will now find it with a new name in downtown Columbiana.

After purchasing the store from the Neuendorf family in 2016, Anna and Daniel Masters decided to move it from Chelsea to Columbiana and rebrand it with their last name.

“We had the store for three years in Chelsea,” Anna Masters said. “It was still Chelsea General Store until we moved in October. Then, we renamed it to Masters General Store. On Nov. 16, we opened in Columbiana.”

And, in the words of multiple customers, Anna said, the store still offers “a little bit of everything,” including outdoor furniture and gazebos; jarred pickled items, jams, jellies and preserves; barbecue sauce, local honey, gourmet candies and salt water taffy; Amish cheese and butter; boutique clothing and T-shirts; and various gift items including jewelry, candles, handmade soaps and bath bombs.

Assembled gift baskets are also available, Anna said.

Customers can even buy a glass bottle soda drink from a vintage Coca-Cola cooler right inside the front door.

“We do a lot of sampling of the products,” she added. “We do sampling events a few times a year, and we ship. You can place an order online or in the store and we can ship it for you.”

Anna said she and Daniel were drawn to Columbiana for its small-town charm and the opportunity to set up shop in a building close to Main Street—across from City Hall and between the Shelby County Arts Council and the Columbiana Senior Center—with customer access points on the front, or street side, and from the back parking lot the store shares with Davis Drug Company.

“I love the walkability,” Anna said. “People are able to park and walk around and shop all the shops at once. And I like the hometown feel. I grew up in a town like this, so to me, it feels like home.”

They also wanted to find a smaller store space that was easier to manage, Anna said. But they brought a bit of Chelsea with them. They repurposed tin and other materials inside the new store.

“I think we’re in a good spot,” Anna said. “We’re glad to be here, and people seem to be happy that we’re here. I think it’s a good opportunity for us to be able to grow with Columbiana.”
