Brookwood Baptist Health has launched its new practice, Precision Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, with multiple locations including facilities in Alabaster, Chelsea, Clanton, Hoover, Princeton and Vestavia.

Due to the demanding physical nature of sports, Precision Sports representatives said there is a substantial need to have easily accessible medical care to treat injuries and prevent chronic health issues, especially among young athletes.

Precision Sports Medicine will be Brookwood Baptist Health’s way of addressing these issues and ensuring the health of athletes and other individuals through a team of “some of the top specialists in the state,” according to Dr. Robert Branstetter, CEO of Brookwood Baptist Health’s Primary and Specialty Care Network.

The Alabaster location, which opened in October, currently employs six specialists, including  Dr. Michael Patterson, a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, as well as the team sports medic and ortho-physician for Thompson High School.

“The new locations have improved our ability to provide care to student athletes,” Patterson said. “People don’t have to leave Shelby County or Alabaster to get that care now.”

Patterson said patients will have an access to a wide variety of services, including treatment for “knee and shoulder injuries, overuse issues, we also treat non-operative use, tendonitis and sprains, fracture care and joint care, as well as regenerative medicine.”

Precision is currently the sports medicine provider for the Birmingham Iron football team.

The Alabaster facility is located across from the Shelby Baptist Medical Center on First Street North, and can be reached at 663-8590.
