PELHAM – Locals looking for an opportunity to learn to skate for free are in luck because the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena’s Learn to Skate event is coming up soon.

Residents are invited to the PCC on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 3-5 p.m. to participate in Learn to Skate, which is hosted in conjunction with National Skate Month, the Pelham Skate School and the Birmingham Figure Skating Club.

Registration will begin at 2:15 p.m. on the day of the event. Children in kindergarten through third grade are especially encouraged to give skating a try.

The event will include group ice skating lessons, free skate time and skate rentals, parent information session, skating demonstrations, games and raffle prizes. There will be one grand prize and 10 door prizes will be drawn at random. Free goodie bags will also be given out to the first 20 participants to register the day of the event.

For more information, call Craig Henderson, skate school director, at 620-6448 or chenderson@pelhamalabama.gov.

The PCC is the home of the Pelham Skate School and Birmingham Figure Skating Club. Both work in tandem and are dedicated to the development of figure skating by providing learn-to-skate opportunities and advanced training for competitive figure skating. Both are sanctioned members of U.S. Figure Skating (USFS).
