FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – College Night is the culmination of homecoming weekend at the University of Montevallo, and this year marks the Centennial Celebration of this long-standing tradition.

For College Night, the student body divides into the Purple Side and the Gold Side – UM’s school colors – for an intense rivalry.

The crowning event of College Night is the completely student-created musical production. Everything from scripts, music, lyrics, costumes, choreography, sets and lighting are student-produced for the shows that are judged by objective professionals.

Along with athletic competitions between the sides, points are awarded and the side accumulating the most points owns bragging rights until the next year.

The winner of the Centennial College Night will be announced on stage at the conclusion of the performances.

Each year, alumni return to cheer on the students on their side and to participate in special homecoming activities.

The final evening of the Centennial College Night productions will begin at 7 p.m. in Palmer Hall on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Special events for the Centennial College Night are:

  • Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 6-9 – College Night Productions at 7 p.m. in Palmer Hall (tickets required).
  • Thursday, Feb. 7 – Window painting of Main Street concludes.
  • Friday, Feb. 8 – Centennial College Night Parade at 3:30 p.m. from Main Street to UM campus.
