ALABASTER – In only a few years of existence, the Thompson High School girls and boys bowling teams have seen rapid success on a state level, and earned the spotlight during a recent Alabaster Board of Education meeting for their accomplishments.

During the most recent season, the THS girls bowling team finished as the state runners-up – missing the state title by a single pin – and the boys team earned a spot in the state championship tournament semifinals.

“It was fun, and it was loud, and it was exciting and even scary there at the end,” Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said with a laugh during a Feb. 11 School Board meeting. “I just want you to know how proud of you I am and what a good job you’re doing. Keep working hard, and keep representing us well as a school system.”

Both THS teams’ list of accomplishments is extensive.

The THS boys were champions of the Rebel Rumble tournament, qualified as a runner-up in AHSAA Area 7, placed third in the Warrior Classic Tournament, were champions of the Rebel Roll Tournament, were semifinalists in the AHSAA South Regional Championship Tournament and advanced to the semifinal round of the AHSAA state championship in late January.

The THS girls won the Rebel Rumble Tournament, were AHSAA Area 7 champions with a perfect 8-0 record, won the Warrior Classic Tournament, placed third in the Rebel Roll Tournament, were AHSAA South Regional champions and finished as the 7A state runners up.
