HOOVER – Late offense propelled Thompson to a doubleheader sweep of Spain Park on Friday, March 22, 13-11 and 10-7.

In the first game, visiting Thompson scored nine runs in the final two innings, which allowed the Warriors to withstand a seven-run charge by the Jaguars in the bottom of the seventh inning and hold on for the win.

THS plated four runs in the top of the second inning to stake out an early lead, courtesy of run-scoring hits by Trey Puckett, Carson Hobbs and Breydon Edmondson.

The Jags scored two runs in the third inning on an RBI single by John Poist and a sacrifice fly by Lane Willis then tied the game in the fifth on a single by Poist and groundout by Adam Wygle.

Thompson answered with three runs in the sixth. Edmondson laced a one-out double off the wall in left-center field before Grayton Arrington reached based on an error.

Edmondson scored on a double by Harrison Poplin, and Arrington crossed home plate on a single by Josh Mehmen. Poplin scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

The Warriors seemingly put the game away with six runs in the seventh, taking a 13-4 lead on four hits, including doubles by Will Hoffman and Mason Yancey, one walk and three Spain Park errors.

But the visitors had a hard time finding outs in the bottom of the seventh, as SPHS scored seven runs and had the winning run on base before Thompson’s Carson Hobbs induced a flyout to right field to end the game.
