ALABASTER – Children looking to get in some extra reading time this summer will be able to do so during Alabaster City Schools’ upcoming Warrior Reading Camp.

Creek View Elementary School will host the Warrior Reading Camp on June 11, June 18, June 25 and July 2, and the camps are tailored toward children who are struggling in reading, need motivation to read during the summer or who just enjoy reading, according to ACS.

“Research shows that summer reading loss can occur during summer vacation times when children are away from the classroom and not participating in formal literacy programs,” read the school’s description of the event. “Don’t let this happen to your students. Enroll for summer reading camp sessions today.”

During each camp session, students will participate in a small-group reading lesson, and then will have a chance to practice their reading skills with teacher supervision. Kids will leave each session with a book to read, reading games to practice with and a fluency passage to practice for the week.

The sessions will be held at these times for the following age groups:

-Students entering first grade will meet from 8-9 a.m.

-Students entering second grade will meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

-Students entering third grade will meet from 11 a.m.-noon.

Registration price is $80, which covers the camp fee and supplies, and parents can register their children at Goo.gl/8R3P8M. The registration deadline is May 21, and the school is encouraging kids to sign up early, as space is limited.
