ALABASTER – The night before Shelby County’s largest free musical festival, locals will have a chance to compete for the crown in the Miss CityFest pageant at the new Thompson High School.

The pageant will be held on Friday, May 31, at 6 p.m. in the THS Performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., and tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Those wishing to compete in the pageant must submit their registration form and a $65 fee to Thompson Middle School in-person or by mail by Friday, May 17.

Students competing in the pageant will be split into divisions based on the grade they completed during the 2018-2019 school year, and students do not have to attend Alabaster City Schools to be able to participate.

The age divisions will be:

-Tiny Miss CityFest for students who have completed grades kindergarten through second

-Little Miss CityFest for students who have completed grades third through fifth

-Junior Miss CityFest for students who have completed grades sixth through eighth

-Miss CityFest for students who have completed grades ninth through 12th

All participants will compete in the casual wear and formal wear competitions, and an overall winner will be crowned in each division. A top-five or top-10 for each division will be selected based on the combined formal wear and casual wear scores, and the overall winner for each division will received a crown, a sash and a prize pack including an on-stage introduction during CityFest and VIP passes to the event the following day.

Contestants can also enter the optional “Miss Photogenic” contest for an additional $15 fee, but the category is not counted toward the contestant’s overall pageant score. The pageant will also feature an audience choice winner for the contestant who generates the most donations the night of the pageant.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Thompson cheerleading program.
