‘Rock the Mountain’ to support OMHS football, cheer
NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain High School spring football game this year will be combined with a crawfish boil, concert and other festivities for a full day of fun and support for the program.
Rock the Mountain is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, with a varsity exhibition game against Bessemer City, followed by the crawfish boil and gumbo cook-off, and concert featuring rock band Outshine from 6:30-10 p.m., all at Heardmont Park.
The event will benefit Oak Mountain’s football and cheerleading programs, said Ashley Serra, who helped organize Rock the Mountain.
“We don’t have a lot of opportunities to get money, so us parents decided to be creative and have a day to raise money so we can focus on the things the guys and girls need,” Serra said.
Tickets cost $20 for those 13 and older, and $10 for those under age 13. They can be purchased at GoFan.co by searching for Oak Mountain High School and then finding “Rock the Mountain Crawfish Boil.”
The price of a ticket will increase to $25 the day of the event.
“We really want people to go ahead and pre-buy,” Serra said.
The game is expected to end around 4 p.m., and when it does, the crawfish boil and gumbo cook-off will commence.
The entry fee for the gumbo cook-off will be $25, and the winner gets a Preferred Parking Pass for the upcoming football season.
In addition to crawfish and gumbo, hamburgers, hot dogs and a variety of other items will be available for attendees, Serra said.
“If you don’t eat crawfish, there’s going to be lots of other food out there,” she said.
Also, food trucks will be on site offering even more options, though those items are not included in the price of admission and must be purchased separately.
Sponsorships for Rock the Mountain are available, starting with a $1,000 Platinum Package that includes a vinyl sign at Heardmont Park for the entire football season or a full-page color advertisement in the 2019 media guide, 15 armbands, four parking passes, a promotion table at the event and more.
Other sponsorship levels are available down to the Bronze Package at $250 that includes a quarter-page black and white ad, two armbands, parking pass and promotion table.
For more information about sponsorships, email OMCrawfishBoil@gmail.com.
“Our goal is to make this a yearly thing where it continues to benefit the football team and cheerleaders,” Serra said.
