SHELBY – First Baptist Church of Shelby is preparing for its annual homecoming event this month.

This year’s homecoming is set for Sunday, June 9, and will feature guest singers, a message and a potluck lunch.

“We have homecoming every year on the second Sunday in June,” Music Minister Sarah Kendrick said. “This is one of our biggest events of the year next to Vacation Bible School. We always have a great turnout, and everyone looks forward to the guest singers we have.”

Steel City Revival, a southern gospel quartet from Birmingham, will perform at 10 a.m.

After the service, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall at noon.

“Homecoming is open to anyone that would like to attend, but has always been a time for people that used to attend our church and have moved away to come back and have a time of fellowship with old friends and family,” Kendrick said. “Everyone is welcome to attend, and we are looking forward to it.”

The church’s Vacation Bible School will start Sunday, June 23, at 6 p.m. for children in 4-5K through sixth grade. Family night will be held June 28 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is “In The Wild.”

The church also will host an adult VBS every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in July.

Established in January 1891, First Baptist Church of Shelby is located at 11 Huntwood Road in Shelby, one block off Shelby County 47, 10 minutes south of Columbiana.
