Rev. George Horton, age 88, of Chelsea, passed away Monday, June 24.

The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Liberty Baptist Church, with the memorial service to follow with Dr. Tim Cox officiating.

George was raised in Martin, Tennessee and married Elizabeth Penick on June 10, 1954 after graduating from Union University, Jackson, Tennessee. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky where George attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity degree.

During his seminary years, he pastored Buffalo Lick Baptist Church, near Shelbyville, Kentucky. Later, he served churches in Eufaula, Oklahoma, Union City, Tennessee, and Nashville, Tennessee.

After retirement, George served as interim pastor in Michigan, and served as a volunteer at the Baptist Conference Center at Glorieta, New Mexico for several years. In 2003, the couple relocated to Chelsea, where both were actively involved at Liberty Baptist Church.

Mr. Horton is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy L. Lynch.

He is survived by his sons, John Horton (Paula) and Robert Horton (Tammy); grandchildren, Andrea Hosea (Nathan), Kendra Clarke (Tanner), Adam Horton (Chelsea), Tyler Horton (Alexandra), Rebekah Horton, Joshua Horton and Mia Horton; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Hosea, Joshua Hosea, Jeremiah Hosea, Ezekiel Hosea, and Josiah Clarke.
