Kermit L. Stephens Sr., age 79, of Brierfield, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Kermit was born July 5, 1940 in Piper. Kermit was a hard-working business owner, devoted Christian, family man that had a caring heart for all that he came in contact with. To know him was to see true love and caring as a true servant of God.

He is survived by his sons, Kermit (Sonya) Stephens, Jr., Kenneth (Teresa) Stephens, and Walter (Genie) Stephens, all of Brierfield; eight grandchildren, Brandon Stephens of Brierfield, Jennifer (Spencer) Hinds of Montevallo, Marc (Marena) Stephens of Brierfield, Courtney Stephens of Brierfield, Kimberlee Stephens of Centreville, Justin (Allison) Stephens of Hoover, Lauren (Josh) Dikis of Pelham, and Cole Tyrrell of Montgomery; six great-grandchildren, Jordon Stephens of Montevallo, Spencer Stephens of Brierfield, Case Hinds of Montevallo, Dalton and Declan Stephens of Hoover and Parks Dikis of Pelham; brother, James (Lila) Stephens of Brierfield; sister in-laws, Dorothy Stephens of Wilton, Peggy (David) LaGrone of Brierfield, and Glenda (Bob) Cook of Clanton; close friend and helper, James Pettit and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Edna C. Stephens; his parents, Lester Stephens, Sr. and Willie Case Stephens; sister, Ernest Lee Stephens; brothers, Joseph (Lola) Stephens, Lester”Bootsie” (Carolyn) Stephens, Jr., Willard (Frances) Stephens, Edward Stephens and Tommy Stephens; and great-nephew, Eli Jackson.

Visitation for Kermit was held Thursday, Dec. 12 from 12-2 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel Montevallo. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with burial in Montevallo Cemetery. Rev. Tom Jordan officiated. Rockco Funeral Home Centreville and Montevallo directing.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Stephens, Justin Stephens, Marc Stephens, Randy Stephens, Tim Stephens and James Pettit. Honorary pallbearers, Joey Stephens, Corky Bice, Jimmy Thrasher, James Stephens, Phillip Cristwell, Benny Nivens, Phil Myers, Dr. Bryan McClelland, Larry Martin, Buddy Cocke & Gene Carlee.
