MONTEVALLO – January will be a busy month at the Parnell Memorial Library.

In addition to the regular print and digital resources, the library will kick off the new year with various programs for patrons of all ages.

Families can drop by the library throughout the month to pick up a kid’s take-home craft.

On Jan. 3, the Magic Tree House Book Club for children in second grade and up will meet at 3:30 p.m. for games and crafts.

Storytime with Mr. Mac will be held every Wednesday except Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day) at 9:15 a.m.

Family Play Group will also be held every Wednesday except Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. The group is open to children from birth to 5 years old who are accompanied by caregivers.

Lego Club is set to meet Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m. The library will provide the blocks for participants to use in building whatever they can imagine.

On Jan. 14, an after-school movie will play at 3:30 p.m. The showing is free and will be a new-release, family-oriented movie.

Family Storytime with Ms. Jennifer is set for Jan. 18 at 9:15 a.m. This storytime is geared toward babies, toddlers and preschool kids.

Children from birth to 5 years old and their caregivers can drop by the library to make a craft and play with the library’s toddler toys on Jan. 21 at 3:15 p.m. Playdoh Club for the same age group will meet Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m.

Regarding adult classes, a computer class is scheduled for every Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m. The class will cover skills such as account creation, Internet searches, effective communication and Gmail features. Each class is part of a four-week course, so attendance at all sessions is encouraged. Call the library at (205) 665-9207 to register.

A writer’s workshop also will be held every Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. This in-depth, six-week course with published author Rita Lee is designed to help beginning writers find inspiration, learn the right process for getting started and learn how to get published. Space is limited, so registration is required.
