PELHAM – The Pelham Racquet Club held a unique event on Friday, March 13, that flipped tennis from being a quiet focused sport to a loud and exciting time for the whole family.

The event was put on by the Florida based company XGLOsive, which describes its events as “a social experience for people of all ages and abilities. XGLOsive transforms your courts with black lights, fluorescent graphics and upbeat music to create a fun nightclub atmosphere.”

“XGLOsive brings all of their equipment like windscreens, targets, line tape, blacklights and fluorescent backdrops,” explained Chaney Mills, assistant director of the racquet club. “They’re also the DJs, so once they start it’ll just be a lot of loud music and fun.”

XGLOsive travels around the southeast doing several of these events a year creating a unique experience for people who may not be skilled at traditional tennis or just want to experience an event with a different atmosphere.

According to Mills more than 60 people signed up for the two sessions at 8 and 9 p.m. and most of them showed up for the event despite the rain that was falling less than an hour before the start.

“We’ve never done anything like this before. It’s just a lot of fun,” Mills said. “It’s not super competitive so you do not have to be at any particular skill level to participate. Tennis is typically a quiet sport so with this event we are flipping the whole thing around by making it loud and fun.”

This event was the last event for the Racquet club before a temporary closure as a response to the Coronavirus pandemic. The facility plans to reopen for guests on March 17. More information about the club can be found at Pelhamracquetclub.com
