I-65 lane, bridge-widening project continues in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY – The Alabama Department of Transportation continues a project to add lanes and widen bridges on I-65 from the State Route 3 Interchange (Exit 238) in Alabaster to the County Road 52 Interchange (Exit 242) in Pelham as follows:

  • Weather permitting, beginning, Thursday, April 2 at 9 p.m., work on I-65 just North of Shelby County Highway 52 to just South of exit 238 is scheduled to start in the northbound lanes for approximately one week for Asphalt Paving. After work is complete in the northbound lanes, work will begin in the southbound lanes.
  • All lanes will re-open for traffic by 5 a.m. each morning.
  • Paving work will continue through July 1st.
  • Final paint striping is scheduled for July 15th and should be complete by July 31st.

The contract was awarded to Dunn Construction and Wiregrass Construction as a Joint Venture for $67.5 million

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
