Egon V. Braunagel
Egon V. Braunagel, age 84, formerly of Birmingham, passed away Tuesday, April 21 in Somers, New York.
He retired from Rust Engineering in Birmingham, where he worked many years as a Senior Project Engineer. For a period of time, he was co-owner of FloTech Dampers in Irondale.
Egon’s talents were many. He was an extremely accomplished wood worker, skillful craftsman and a master mechanic. If he did not have expertise in repairing or creating something, he diligently worked at the task at hand until perfection was achieved. He loved playing golf and was on the golf team in high school and the Student Council President of his senior class.
He spent his whole life being a great Daddy, husband, coworker and caregiver to those in his family and friends who needed him. There wasn’t a joke on his lips that didn’t bring a smile to someone’s face. He was treasured and loved by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Greta and Hans Braunagel; sister, Alice Johnson; and childhood sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Jacqueline M. Braunagel.
He is survived by his daughters who cherished him dearly, Paige (Biff) Hill and Dee (Chip) Ray; five grandchildren, Britt Hill (Sara), Audra Burke (Brian), Matt Ray (Debra), Kent Ray (Elisabeth), and Kayla Amerson (Dylan) who truly loved their Granpa; and seven great- grandchildren, Kenzie, Cayden, Ryder (step great-grandson), Breslyn, Jesse, Sophia and Dominik who were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his cousin, Ellen Walker; niece, Dona Johnson; and fiancé, Marge Catucci.
A private memorial will be held at a later time.
The family would like to express their thanks for all of the wonderful remembrances sent to them during this time along with cards of sympathies.
