Shelby County Schools Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator Randy Reeves shared updates with the Board of Education on July 23 regarding projects at several of the district’s schools.

Reeves said construction of a multipurpose building at Vincent Middle High School is underway but is experiencing delays.

“We do anticipate completing that building in the next 60 days,” Reeves said.

The VMHS gym lobby and restrooms are also undergoing renovations.

The board approved a $177,496 bid from Williford Orman Construction, LLC, the lowest bidder, for the construction of a new surgical health science lab at Chelsea High School.

The board also approved a $48,597 construction contract with Williford Orman Construction, LLC for a renovation project at Calera Intermediate School to level the floor in the band room.

Other projects Reeves mentioned were plumbing and HVAC system renovations at Oak Mountain High School and the newly completed athletics training facility at Chelsea High School.

Reeves said his team has a plan in place for cleaning and preparing school buildings before students return for the 2020-2021 school year on Aug. 13.
