We are weeks away from two of the most expensive Alabama Governor and Senate elections in state history.

Millions of dollars have poured into both, with a lot of it coming from out-of-state donors. And the money and campaign commercials coming in from these political action committees should come with a warning – beware of the following representations. Some of the ads running on radio and television stretch are more myths, while others are closer to reality.

Now Alabama voters are a very independent lot who don’t like being told what to do. The state’s motto, “ We Dare Defend Our Rights” perfectly reflects the attitude Alabama residents hold when it comes to politics, which is always a strong doubt for outside opinions.

And thus, with so many campaign ads running as we approach the state’s May 24th party primary elections, trying to sort out fact from fiction is sometimes hard. Of course, all of the candidates are working hard to persuade voters they are the most conservative.

So now more than ever, those heading to the ballot box have to do their own homework to determine the truth about the candidates. Those candidates that prevail will have done the best to show that they will lead with the same values as Alabama citizens.

Alabama has an important election ahead and more than ever we need informed voters headed to the polls.
