ALABASTER – Thompson coach Art Bogan took the first victory of his Warriors coaching career as Thompson beat Oak Mountain 59-28 on Thursday, Nov. 16.

The Warriors used a dominant third quarter to extend their halftime lead and pull away for the win.

The teams were evenly matched in the first quarter while they felt each other out and aimed to establish the tone of the game.

While the Eagles led the game after the first quarter 12-11, that lead proved to be short-lived.

Seven different Warriors scored a basket in the second quarter to help them outscore Oak Mountain 15-6 for the rest of the half, and Thompson went into the halftime break with a 29-18 lead.

The third quarter was where Thompson truly turned on the jets. The Warriors went on a 19-2 run during the quarter and kept the Eagles scoreless outside of the free throw line.

Five points in the quarter from both Morgan Adolphus and Cailyn Landrew helped Thompson take a commanding 48-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

From there, the Warriors cruised to victory and extended their lead. While the Eagles scored eight points in the fourth quarter, Karilyn Oden and Landrew combined for the Warriors’ 11 points in that time frame to secure the 59-28 win.

Landrew led all scorers in the game with 13 points, with Oden just behind her with 12 and Adolphus also reaching double figures with 11.

In addition, Kaylee Fenderson scored seven points and Sydney Coney had six points.

For Oak Mountain, Raegan Whitaker led the team with eight points and Joy Damron had seven points.
