MONTEVALLO – Baba Java Coffee at the Strand in Montevallo has announced that it will be closing its doors after only nine months of serving the local community.

Baba Java Coffee took to Facebook on Sunday, Nov. 26 to announce its plans to close its Montevallo location. The business will officially close its doors on Saturday, Dec. 9.

“We will miss the Montevallo community and are thankful for all of our customers who supported this location,” read the Facebook post. “To say goodbye, stop by The Strand on Dec. 8 and 9 for BOGO drinks.”

The business also shared that any remaining gift cards will be honored at the business’s Hoover location at 4730 Chace Circle #124, Birmingham.

Baba Java Coffee at the Strand marked the second location to be opened by Baba Java Coffee and previously held its grand opening this year on Friday, March 3 after a soft opening two weeks earlier.

Baba Java Coffee at the Strand is the second coffee shop to open at the strand building on Main Street. Most recently, it was the home of Strand Coffeehouse until its closure on Dec. 31, 2022. Baba Java Coffee at the Strand is located at 616 Main Street in Montevallo.

The building boasts a rich history of being the spot of many businesses over the years including The Strand movie theater, an apothecary and an art studio. The business still displays The Strand theatre’s old ticket window in the front and the old brick wall bearing an old Durham tobacco advertisement in the back.

Baba Java Coffee opened its first location in Hoover on March 30, 2019 after previously engaging in online sales and pop-up shops. The business announced plans earlier this year to open a second Hoover location on Highway 119 across from Taco Mama and Edgar’s Bakery.
