SYLACAUGA – Briarwood picked up its second win in back-to-back nights as the Lions beat the Sylacauga Aggies 53-51 in a tight road game on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Ann Tatum Baker and Emma Kerley got the early offense going for the Lions as each player scored four points, but Briarwood fell behind to trail Sylacauga 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.

However, the Lions responded with a 20-point effort in the second quarter as Baker scored seven more points and Sasha Munikar knocked down a pair of three-pointers to score seven points of her own in the quarter.

That gave Briarwood a 32-27 lead, but the fight was not over yet.

Sylacauga kept funneling its offense through Destinee Ealy, who had 11 points in the third and 29 points for the night, which helped the Aggies tie up the game at 40 going into the fourth quarter.

With the game on the line in the final eight minutes, the Lions combined for 13 points, including five points from Kerley and four points from Baker, to score just enough to take the lead, and the defense did its part to earn the 53-51 win.

Baker led the Lions with 18 points while also adding three steals. Kerley had 15 points and eight rebounds on the night, while Dicen had seven points and four steals and Munikar scored seven.
