The Helena Huskies kept their phenomenal start to the season going with wins in back-to-back days, first defeating the McAdory Yellow Jackets 64-57 on Monday, Nov. 27 before coming home to beat the Center Point Eagles 62-44 on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

A key reason for Helena’s success has been Josh Williams, who has led the Huskies offense with great shooting performances, which continued in both games.

Williams got the scoring going in the first quarter of Helena’s matchup with McAdory with 10 of his team’s 15 first quarter points, which gave the Huskies a slim 15-14 lead after the first quarter.

However, the Huskies were held to just seven points in the second quarter, including two made shots from the field, as the Jackets dropped 17 on the other end of the floor to take a nine-point lead into the halftime break.

With McAdory leading 31-22 at the half, Helena found its offensive rhythm again and began to cut into the Jackets’ lead.

Williams scored 12 points in the third and Drew Davis added five more to set up the Huskies within striking distance down just five points.

The Huskies made a statement down the stretch with 23 points in the fourth quarter as Williams had another 10-point quarter and Davis and Ian Johnigan each had four points in the period to help Helena complete the comeback and win 64-57.

Williams had 33 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win to lead the Huskies. Davis scored 11 points, Johnigan had nine points and Joseph King scored six.

That win gave Helena all of the momentum as it headed back home to face Center Point the next night.

The Huskies fell behind early as the Eagles led 13-9 after the first quarter, but Helena would control the contest from there.

A balanced scoring effort in the second quarter led by King’s five points gave the Huskies the lead, which they held until halftime when they were up 23-19.

Helena pulled away in the third quarter to thwart any chance of a Center Point comeback. The Huskies scored 19 points in the third, including 10 from Williams and five from Johnigan, to increase the lead to double-digits heading into the fourth quarter.

Helena put an exclamation point on the win with a 20-point fourth quarter as Williams dropped another eight points and King and Denton McDonald both had four points in the period. That helped the Huskies put the finishing touches on the 62-44 win.

Williams led all scorers with 25 points, while King had 11 points, Johnigan scored nine and Kevin Pinkard had six points.
