HOOVER – The Pelham Panthers took a closely-fought win over the Spain Park Jaguars at the teams’ tri-match with the Bob Jones Patriots on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Pelham’s four straight wins to start the match set it up for the 38-28 victory.

After the teams chose to send out their 120-pound wrestlers to begin, Pelham’s Patrick Warner cruised to a 14-0 major decision over Caleb Etchepare.

Malachi Dahlen then took six points, and Walt Calvert earned the Panthers’ second major decision of the night with a 17-3 win over Josh Milazzo in the 132-pound match.

Sam Powell earned Pelham’s first win by defeating fellow 138-pound wrestler Kyle Fairless as they neared the end of the second period, recording the fall at the 3:51 mark.

From there, Spain Park would get on the scoreboard with three straight wins.

Sawyer Hardy shut out Kamerin Mills in the 144-pound match with a 6-0 decision, and then Bradley Williams took an even wider decision with a 12-4 major decision over Thomas Peerson in the 150-pound match.

Spain Park then pulled within seven points of tying up with Pelham when Hayden Hannah pinned Robert Darrenkamp 3:36 into the showdown between 157-pound wrestlers.

The Panthers then secured 12 points to position themselves for the victory as Brayden Patterson and Tanner McCarthy took their matches, with Patterson scoring a pin 1:25 into the first period.

The Jags then won three straight matches to pick up more wins over Pelham.

Spain Park’s Matthew Stark kicked off the stretch with a 7-0 decision win over Ian Chambers in the 190-pound match.

Maddox McDaniel closed out the match on a high note for the Panthers by pinning London Ford 2:24 into their 106-pound match, which gave Pelham the 38-28 victory.

While Bob Jones won both of its matches on the night, both Pelham and Spain Park found success in their individual battles with the Patriots wrestlers.

After Bob Jones won the first four matches against Pelham, Calvert walked away victorious with an 8-1 decision against Nick Lozano in the 138-pound match.

While the Patriots took the next match, the Panthers rolled to five straight wins to pull within a point of the lead.

Peerson defeated Jack Shaver with a fall 3:02 into their 150-pound match. Then, Darrenkamp held on for a pin at 5:05 in his matchup with Greyson Samargia to take the six points.

Patterson then won a tight 5-2 decision in the 165-pound match against Will Zerangue, and then the Panthers took a pair of 9-4 decisions, the first with McCarthy over Jackson Aquino in the 175-pound match, and the second as Chambers came out on top over Slade Congo.

Bob Jones closed out the 37-27 match win with a pair of pins, but McDaniel won his second matchup of the night with a narrow 3-2 decision over Tyce Crosswy.
