Alabaster Michaels holds grand opening celebration

ALABASTER – The first customer in line cut the ribbon as Michaels in Alabaster celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Michaels in Alabaster officially opened its doors on Nov. 13 and is located in the Propst Promenade shopping center where Bed Bath & Beyond was formerly located at 300 Colonial Promenade Parkway, Ste 2400.
The business held a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration on Dec. 2 that featured multiple festivities including free crafts, giveaways, pictures with Santa and more.
Store Manager Matt Adams said it feels great for the store to finally be open and in the swing of things.
“We love the community,” he said. “We love the support we’ve gotten from the community and we love our customer base and we love our crafters and our makers.”
During the celebration, Michaels gave out 120 $10 gift cards to the first people that came In and also gave out a free Michaels gift bag. The business also gave out 30 gift cards to the local government and 50 gift cards to local teachers.
Michaels is part of a chain of arts and crafts stores that provide residents with do-it-yourself supplies and merchandise. Michaels carries a full range of art supplies, including paints, brushes, canvases, charcoal, easels, school and office supplies, markers, drawing sets and more.
“It’s basically to help the crafts and makers out there with whatever projects they have to make sure that we support them,” Adams said.
The city of Alabaster first announced that a Michaels craft and hobby store was coming to the city back in June. Since then, the Alabaster City Council approved an incentive package with cosmetic upgrades to the building and surrounding parking lots during a meeting on Sept. 11.
“(People) spent a lot of money on getting the story ready,” Adams. “They redid all the bathrooms downstairs and everything. They did a lot of hard work pulling it all into this beautiful space that we can provide the community.”
Michaels in Alabaster is open every day at the following times:
- Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
