HUEYTOWN – The Pelham Panthers took a 10-point win on the road as they beat the Hueytown Golden Gophers 51-41 on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Hueytown High School.

The teams played a tight first quarter as they felt each other out to start the game. Pelham ended the quarter with an early 8-7 advantage thanks to four points from Karma Wynn.

Tiauna King hit a pair of three-pointers in the second quarter to help the Panthers build out a lead. Ally Barfield also had four points as Pelham outscored Hueytown 13-5 during that time.

With the Panthers leading 21-12, the Golden Gophers cut into the lead by going 7-for-15 from the free throw line. While the missed free throws kept Hueytown from drawing closer than seven, the hosts were within striking distance at the end of the third.

Needing a response to pull away, King and Karma Wynn scored 15 of their team’s 17 fourth quarter points. That held off a 14-point effort by Hueytown in the final quarter to cap off the 10-point victory on the road.

King led all scorers with 21 points while also adding eight rebounds. Wynn scored 16 points, Barfield had eight and Shea Gallagher scored four.
