COLUMBIANA – The Vincent Yellow Jackets overcame an early deadlock to pull away and beat the Shelby County Wildcats on the road 45-22 on Friday, Dec. 15.

The teams took the first quarter to feel each other out, scoring four points apiece to end the quarter just like they started the game: tied up.

However, the Jackets were the first to find their offense and took the lead from there. After scoring all four of Vincent’s first-quarter points, Ja’Kaylnn McGinnis added six more to get into double-figures before halftime.

In addition, Kaziyah Moon scored four points as part of her team’s 13-point second quarter, and the Jackets led 17-10 at halftime.

As the teams came out of the locker room, the scoring from both sides continued to increase, which helped Vincent build out a double-digit lead.

The Jackets outscored Shelby County 16-9 in the third behind six different scorers, including four points from Taniya Robertson and three-pointers from TK Smoot and Gracie Phillips.

Now leading 37-19 heading into the fourth quarter, Vincent cruised from there to the win, adding eight more points and holding the Wildcats to just one basket from the field.

That added five more points to the Jackets lead and sealed the 23-point victory away from home.

McGinnis led the way with 16 points, while Moon had eight points and Robertson and Smoot each scored six points apiece.
