Shelby County Schools receives A on state report card

Shelby County Schools has received an A on its state report card for this year.

Each year, the state’s school systems receive a report card that scores performance and a variety of other factors. 

“I am really proud of the school leaders, teachers and staff members for their hard work and dedication to the success of our school district, but more importantly to our students,” SCS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Brooks said.

Shelby County Schools received an overall score of 90 on its state report card.

“We continue to stand committed to the academic achievement of all of the students we serve,” Brooks said.

The district score is based on the individual scores from schools in the system and the report card grade considers student achievement, academic growth, college and career readiness as well as chronic absenteeism for students in each school.

The overall score breaks down into multiple indicator scores, of which Shelby County Schools received a 100 in academic growth.

“The best news is that in the category of academic growth, our district received an indicator score of 100, meaning that all students are progressing,” read an official Facebook post by Shelby County Schools.

Shelby County Schools also received a 74.18 in academic achievement, a 54.84 in progress in English language proficiency with a 94.98 graduation rate. In state accountability indicators, Shelby County Schools received a 13.84 in chronic absenteeism and 85.19 in college and career readiness.

According to State Superintendent Eric Mackey, 262 schools in the state received an A for the 2022-2023 school year, 508 schools received B’s, 370 schools received C’s, 148 schools received D’s and 58 schools received F’s.
