CALERA – Calera resident Dillan Kelsey was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 4:52 a.m. on first degree robbery charges after police served out an arrest warrant.

Police records indicate that the arrest warrant for Kelsey was signed and issued on Dec. 15 and was related to a crime that allegedly took place days prior.

That report claims that on Dec. 12, Kelsey stole an undetermined amount of money, in the form of paper currency, from an individual known to him. During the course of this theft, Kelsey allegedly used a Glock 17 handgun and the threat of force to commit the robbery.

Kelsey’s arrest was not immediate however, and involved a search where the Calera Police Department made several posts to social media on the afternoon of Dec. 15 asking the public to remain alert and to report any helpful information.

In one of the posts, the Calera Police Department confirmed that Kelsey, who is 18 years old, knew and was known personally to the victim and that the crime was not one of random intent.  The search for Kelsey, which ended in the early morning hours of the day following the issuing of his arrest warrant, involved aid from multiple surrounding municipalities.

“Thank you, Alabaster Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, University of Montevallo Police Department, Helena, Alabama Police Department for sending officers to assist,” Calera Police Chief David Hyche said. “Situations like this are very rare in Calera.  Responding immediately with all available resources to hold suspects accountable will keep them rare.”

This is the latest of Kelsey’s arrests, with a prior incident having been reported late in September when Kelsey was arrested in Alabaster on charges relating to possession of Marijuana in the second degree.
