TUSCALOOSA – The Montevallo Bulldogs cruised to their second area win of the past week with a dominant 58-21 win over the Holt Ironmen on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Holt High School.

The Bulldogs took the win thanks to a strong performance on both ends of the floor thanks to a lockdown defense and 25 points from Ja’Von Chism.

Montevallo’s offense kicked into gear early with 18 first-quarter points, led by six from Dee Cutts and four from Chism to set the tone in the opening minutes.

The Bulldogs also started well on the defensive side by holding the Ironmen to just seven points in the first quarter to take an early double-digit lead.

Chism took over the second quarter with a pair of three-pointers and eight points overall to get himself over 10 points for the half.

The Bulldogs outscored Holt by six in the second to increase their lead to 29-14 at halftime after a strong first-half effort on both ends of the court.

Montevallo came out of the locker room even more improved than it was in the first half, earning its best defensive quarter of the game to that point by allowing just five points in the third.

Chism came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders as well. While he put up 12 points in the first half, he was far from done impacting the game on offense and scored 13 of the Bulldogs’ 23 third-quarter points.

With a commanding 52-19 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, Montevallo saw out the game from there and put the finishing touches on a 37-point victory on the road in area play.

Chism outscored Holt by himself with 25 points in just three quarters. Cutts scored nine points, Javon Rogers had six points off three made shots and Demeco Gibson added five points.

The Bulldogs will look to add another area win to their 2-1 record in a road showdown with West Blocton on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
