PELHAM – Oak Mountain State Park is set to host the second edition of MammothMarch Alabama on Saturday, April 13.

MammothMarch began as a virtual hiking challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now travelling across the U.S. with long-distance hiking events. Now, the event will return to OMSP for the second time, highlighting the trails of the state park.

The goal of the event remains enjoy the outdoors while slowing down to recharge the body, mind and soul.

The MammothMarch Alabama event is a single-circuit loop covering 20 miles of trails within the park.

The trail can be completed in about eight hours, with aid and refreshment stations placed every 5-7 miles of the trail. The final route for the hike will be available on the MammothMarch website at Mammothmarch.com/alabama-2024 for two weeks prior to the event.

When signing up, there are several starting time slots to choose from, with the first starting at 7 a.m.

There is a limited capacity for each time slot with only five people allowed to cross the starting line at a time to allow all participants the opportunity for a more remote hiking experience.

Those that cross the finish line will receive a medal as well as a certificate, no matter how long it takes you to complete the event.

The event will have no timekeeping and no failures, recognizing the courage it takes to rise to the challenge of completing the 20-mile event inside the park.

MammothMarch merchandise can be pre-ordered at the event website and will be available for pickup at the event. Merchandise will also be available for purchase the day of, while supplies last.

Park entry and parking is complementary with the purchase of a MammothMarch ticket. For lodging, MammothMarch has reserved rooms at the Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Pelham for a discounted price.
