WEST BLOCTON – The Montevallo Bulldogs picked up another key win in area play in a road battle with the West Blocton Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Bulldogs won the rescheduled contest 43-16 to sweep the regular season series against the Tigers and move to 3-2 in area play.

Montevallo’s defense was strong from the opening buzzer as the Bulldogs held West Blocton to just two points in the first quarter.

On the offensive end, Tristan Stoutermire impacted the game early with seven points in the opening quarter. Cherish Eason added four more points to help Montevallo take a 16-2 lead into the second.

Stoutermire continued to control the tempo on offense with eight more points in the second quarter to give her 15 for the first half.

While the Tigers improved on offense in the second with seven points, the Bulldogs outpaced them to lead 28-9 at halftime.

Montevallo spread out the scoring in the third quarter as four different Bulldogs scored 10 points in the early minutes after the break.

They increased their commanding lead to 26 points during the third by holding West Blocton to three points in eight minutes of play.

That was enough for the Bulldogs to cruise to victory in the fourth quarter. Stoutermire added four of Montevallo’s five points in the final quarter as the defense allowed just four more points to seal the victory.

Stoutermire led both teams with a game-high 21 points. Eason scored eight points and Zabdy Perez and A’Mya Hudson each had four points apiece.

The Bulldogs will have games on back-to-back nights ahead of their area finale as they will face Corner on the road on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. and battle Shelby County at home on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
