MONTEVALLO – After losing their previous four games, the Montevallo Bulldogs got back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over the Thorsby Rebels on Monday, March 4 at Montevallo High School.

After conceding the opening run to Thorsby, Montevallo scored two unanswered runs to claim the one-run win.

The Rebels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to an RBI groundout following a leadoff single just two batters prior.

From there, both starters settled into a pitcher’s duel as only one batter from each team reached base until the bottom of the third inning.

After a Bentley Howell leadoff double and Zachary Shores single opened the floodgates, a groundout by Ethan Juarez allowed Howell to score and tie the game at 1-1.

The Bulldogs reached base on a hit by pitch and Keiston Ross single afterwards, but they couldn’t take the lead before the inning ended.

Montevallo took down Thorsby in the top of the fourth in one-two-three fashion and resumed its attack at the plate in the bottom of the frame.

Connor Shores hit a single on the first pitch of the inning, and a hit by pitch put two runners on base for the Bulldogs.

While it slipped into a two-out hole by surrendering the next two batters, Zachary Shores hit an RBI single to drive the go-ahead run home and take a 2-1 lead.

From there, Montevallo allowed just one hit the rest of the way as they dispatched the Rebels without allowing another run the rest of the way.

While the Rebels had a runner on third with two outs in the top of the seventh, Connor Shores took care of business with a strikeout to finish the win.

Ross earned the win with six innings of one-run baseball. He earned five strikeouts against three hits and three walks.

Connor Shores took home the save in the seventh inning as he earned three strikeouts without surrendering a hit or walk.
