Thompson enters MaxPreps Top 25 for first time in 2024 after 19-1 start

The Thompson Warriors have surged back atop the state with their strong start to the season, and now, the nation is taking notice.

Thompson earned a spot in the national top 25 rankings by national high school sports outlet MaxPreps with the release of the site’s latest rankings on Tuesday, March 12.

Not only did the Warriors enter the rankings, they did so at No. 21, joining Texas’ Melissa as the only two schools to enter the top 25 this week.

Thompson also checks in as the No. 2 team in the state of Alabama behind Orange Beach. The Class 4A Makos are currently 5-0 on the season.

After reaching the state tournament in 2023, the Warriors have set a blazing pace to start 2024. They currently sit at 19-1 and have not lost since the opening weekend of the season on Feb. 17.

Since then, Thompson has won 17 straight games, dominating both on offense and in the circle to defeat some of the top teams in the state.

The Warriors boast victories over Class 7A foes Spain Park, Tuscaloosa County, Fairhope and Hewitt-Trussville as well as wins over some of the top teams in other classifications.

Thompson is coming off an undefeated weekend at the Jag Classic in Hoover, defeating Brooks, Southside-Gadsden and Pell City by a combined margin of 29-2 on Saturday, March 9.

The Warriors will face one of the top teams in Class 6A in the Helena Huskies on the road on Tuesday, March 12 before the start of area play on Thursday, March 14 when they take on Vestavia Hills away from home.
