NORTH SHELBY – Trailing by two runs after two innings to the Oak Mountain Eagles, the Spain Park Jaguars responded in just the right way with a two-run third and scored the go-ahead run to take the lead in the sixth.

That was enough for the Jags to take the 3-2 win in area play and be victorious over their local rival.

Oak Mountain recovered from issuing three walks into the top of the first to get out of the inning and took a one-two-three inning in the top of the second.

The Eagles used that defensive momentum to start the home half of the inning with a pair of singles from Anna DuBose and Alea Rye. Bella Williams then walked to load up the bases with no outs and deepen the hole for Spain Park.

Two pitches later, Elia Carrillo singled to center to plate a pair of runs and give Oak Mountain a 2-0 lead.

Needing a response in the top of the third, the Jags capitalized on a golden scoring opportunity to tie up the game.

After the Eagles secured the first out of the game, they dodged Maggie Daniel’s hitting threat with an intentional walk and secured the second out on the next batter.

That intentional walk quickly backfired as Charlee Bennett hit a home run on the first pitch she saw, scoring two runs and tying the game up at 2-2.

That tied score line held through the fourth and fifth inning as the teams sought the upper hand in the matchup.

Then, Teagan Huey kicked off the top of the sixth with a first-pitch single and advanced to second off an error, giving Spain Park a runner in scoring position to work with.

Reagan Roberts and Tatum Lasseter succeeded on advancing Huey and plated the go-ahead run.

From there, the Jags didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way to secure the 3-2 win.

Jaley Young earned the win, pitching a complete game and overcame two earned runs, six hits and two walks to take the victory.

Spain Park will continue its journey through area play with a home game against Chelsea on Wednesday, March 20 at 4:30 p.m.

Oak Mountain will face Sumiton Christian on the road on Monday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m. before its next area game against Hewitt-Trussville the next day.
