Fourth class of ChHS Hall of Fame inductees announced

CHELSEA – Another group of Chelsea High School alumni will be honored this year for their impact on the community and will be inducted into the Chelsea High School Hall of Fame.

ChHS Student Government Association President Madison Burton and faculty sponsor Ryan Adams announced the names of this year’s ChHS Hall of Fame inductees during a regularly scheduled Chelsea city council meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

“The members of the SGA have been diligent in learning about and honoring those who made what we have possible,” Adams said. “With that said, we are proud to publicly announce the inductees of the fourth class of the Chelsea High School Hall of Fame.”

The 2024 ChHS Hall of Fame inductees are:

  • Community category – David “Hootie” Ingram
  • Academic category – Brian Bunson
  • Faculty category – Cheryl Miller
  • Student impact category – Vickey Bailey
  • Athletic category – Rick Yates
  • Heritage category – Richard and Sarah Conkle

This year’s ceremony will take play at Hargis Christian Camp on Wednesday, April 24 beginning at 6 p.m. Further information on the event will be released closer to the annual celebration.

“We would like to extend an invitation to members of the City Council and we would like to publicly ask businesses and members of the community to consider supporting this and our other endeavors through sponsorship,” Burton said.

During the meeting, Burton and Adams also shared more positive news about the ChHS SGA. Adams and ten SGA members recently attended the Alabama Student council Association Conference and presented the SGA’s credentials. Afterward, the ChHS SGA receive multiple accolades, including a silver recognition as an outstanding student council, second place for service, first place for council scrapbook, first place for leadership and Burton received the first place award for oratory presentation.

Adams also announced that the Chelsea High School SGA will now serve as the president of the Alabama Student Council Association for the 2024-2025 school year.

“We are steadfast in showing what a willing and motivated group can accomplish to the rest of the state and to show that there is something always good happening here in Chelsea,” Adams said.

After hearing the SGA’s presentation, Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer awarded the organization $250 from the Chelsea Tree Commission.

In other business, the Chelsea City Council:

  • Accepted a proclamation from the mayor declaring April 2024 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
  • Approved a resolution to authorize the mayor to execute a construction agreement for project # TAPAA-TA24 (929).
  • A resolution to award an education grant funds to Chelsea Middle School in the amount of $52,078.69.
  • A resolution to award an education grant funds to Chelsea High School in the amount of $35,106.16.
  • A resolution to award an education grant funds to Chelsea Park Elementary School in the amount of $31,116.23.
  • A resolution to award an education grant funds to Forest Oaks Elementary School in the amount of $14,607.97.
  • Approved a resolution to establish an employee insurance premium policy
