Siluria Baptist Church hosts Easter egg hunt for Alabaster community

ALABASTER – After the word “start” echoed across the field, kids ran to snatch up as many eggs as they could get their hands on during Siluria Baptist Church’s Easter egg hunt.
Siluria Baptist Church treated the local community to an Easter egg hunt and a variety of games and activities on March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.
“It was a great event,” said Michael J. Brooks, who serves as a pastor at Siluria Baptist Church. “We had a really big crowd this year.”
During the event, children were able to participate in multiple activities including, games, face painting, pictures as well as candy and meeting the Easter Bunny. In addition, the church also served lunch to those in attendance.
“(The event is) a gift to the community,” Brooks said. “We are a neighborhood church. We’ve been in Siluria since 1908. We see our purpose being here as God’s design to be a blessing for our community.”
In the midst of all of the Easter festivities, members of the Siluria Baptist Church also took the time to visually teach a lesson about the true meaning behind the holiday.
The Easter Bunny joined the minister in a presentation involving 12 eggs that contained tools for teaching about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, including elements such as a cross, a cup and a whip.
“That was nice,” Brooks said. “The children enjoyed that.”
The event culminated with an Easter egg hunt for children in pre-K through fifth grade in which children ran to the field to collect eggs which Brooks said disappeared quickly. Afterward, prizes were given out for the winners of the games and for the most eggs collected.
“The children were excited and probably tired too after a two hour event,” Brooks said.
Siluria Baptist Church is located at 10696 Highway 119 south in Alabaster across from Champy’s Famous Fried Chicken.
“We are a neighborhood church, (and) we try to reach out to Shelby County,” Brooks said. “We believe God has a purpose in our being in the Siluria community.”
