NORTHPORT – The Thompson Warriors kept rolling in area play with a 2-1 road win against the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats on Wednesday, April 3 at Tuscaloosa County High School.

Thompson got to work early in the first inning to take the lead. On the second batter of the game, Keara Hall hit a solo home run to center field to put the Warriors up 1-0.

The second inning was a defensive battle between the two area foes as a Tuscaloosa County single was the lone hit that either team had in the frame.

Dailynn Motes then hit a one-out single in the top of the third to put a runner on for Thompson. While the next batter hit into a fly out, Olivia Tindell doubled to left field, and Motes came home all the way from first base to make the lead 2-0.

Neither team managed more than one base runner at a time until the bottom of the sixth when the Wildcats used momentum from a double play in the top of the inning to capitalize on offense.

Kadyn Bush earned a strikeout to start the home half of the frame, but Tuscaloosa County singled on the next pitch. The next batter popped out to second, but the Warriors couldn’t get out of the inning and issued back-to-back walks to load up the bases.

The Wildcats then hit an RBI single to cut Thompson’s lead to one and put pressure on the visitors.

However, the Warriors dealt with the scoring threat on the next pitch by earning a ground out to end the sixth.

While Tuscaloosa County had a one-two-three inning in the top of the seventh, Thompson answered with one of their own to end the game and take the 2-1 win.

Motes led the offense with a 2-for-4 day with a run, while Hall finished 1-for-2 with a home run.

Bush earned the win with eight strikeouts in six innings, allowing just one run and working her way around seven hits and two walks. Aubree Hooks took the save with a perfect seventh inning.

Thompson will return on Thursday, April 4 for a non-area game against county foe Spain Park on the road at 4:30 p.m.
