HOOVER – The Thompson Warriors had to come from behind to do it, but they took another win over a county foe as they overcame a 3-0 first-inning deficit to beat the Spain Park Jaguars 9-4 on Thursday, April 4 at Spain Park High School.

It was also a special night for the Jags as they raised awareness of ovarian cancer during the game.

Spain Park got out to a strong start in the bottom of the first inning. After an error and a bunt allowed Maggie Daniel to reach second base, Charlee Bennett hit an RBI double to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Teagan Huey then got hit by a pitch to reach base, and a sacrifice fly on the ensuing at-bat brought Tatum Lasseter home to double the lead.

The Warriors struck out the next batter, but the inning stayed alive after a four-pitch walk right afterwards. A wild pitch during Klara Thompson’s at-bat brought Bennett home and made the score 3-0.

The second inning came and went without a hit, but Thompson struck in the third inning to take the lead for good.

Mallory Flournoy and Nora Davis reached base to start the inning with a double and a single respectively, and an error during Olivia Tindell’s at-bat brought home the first run of the game for the Warriors.

After Tindell scored second base, Dailynn Motes tied up the game at 3-3 with a two-run single.

Laney Williams drew a walk to put a pair of runners on for Kadyn Bush, and she brought Motes home with an RBI double to take a 4-3 lead.

While Morgan Adolphus couldn’t extend the lead to two on the same play after she was called out at home plate, Keara Hall plated a pair of runs two batters later with an RBI double, making the score 6-3.

Spain Park got out of the inning from there and drew back within two in the bottom of the third with a Huey RBI double after Bennett drew a lead-off walk.

Thompson extended the lead back to three in the top of the fifth after Hall scored off an error during Savanna Burnett’s at-bat.

The next inning, Williams and Bush got the Warriors going again with back-to-back singles, and an error off Autumn Ingle’s bunt loaded up the bases with no outs.

Hall used that advantage to bring home Williams off a groundout to make the score 8-4.

After Alexandra Bauer reached off a fielder’s choice, Burnett drew a bases-loaded walk to score the final run of the game in the 9-4 win.

Hall finished the game 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBI and a run.

Ingle earned the win after coming in for 5.2 shutout innings of relief, taking six strikeouts while allowing just one hit and three walks.

Thompson will face Vestavia Hills at home in its next game on Tuesday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m. Spain Park will travel to Hartselle for a tournament at Bob Jones from April 5-6.
